Dallas was born in Minneapolis, MN on March 25, 1942, the son of Scandinavian parents Florence and Howard Strom. On March 24, 2008 he entered into the presence of his Abba Father.  Dallas was grateful for His Swedish heritage, drawing strength and wisdom from his family roots.  Dallas graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1960 and attended the University of Minnesota.  He married Linda, his bride and best friend, on April 2, 1963. The following year he surrendered his life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. He joined the Lay Staff of Campus Crusade for Christ in 1971.  In 1974, Dallas and Linda founded Discipleship Unlimited in Milwaukee,WI.
In 1986, Dallas and Linda began ministering in Texas prisons.  They moved to Texas in 2003 to be closer to those they served “behind the fences”.  That same year, Dallas was diagnosed with cancer.  During these past five years Dallas had been an inspiration to those who walked with him. He spoke of finding treasure in the darkness. He walked in victory knowing that Jesus had conquered death.
So much love and prayer were poured out on Dallas from his family and many friends. His favorite story became that of the man on the stretcher whose friends carried him to Jesus. So many friends sacrificed time, money and energy to help make this a joyful journey. Dallas was also grateful for those “behind the fences” who faithfully believed God for him.
Dallas is survived by his mother, Florence, and three brothers David, John and Wally. They recently came to Texas and ministered together with Dallas in the prison. He also is survived by a brother-in law, Larry Bogart. Larry was a soul mate and friend. Dallas had the joy of parenting three sons. He will live on in the lives of his children and grandchildren. Terry and wife Jean live in Texas and serve on the Discipleship Unlimited staff. His first grandson, Jake, has brought 15 years of adventure into Dallas’ life. He has tenderly cared for him in his illness. Thomas, his middle son, lives in Milwaukee, WI. Tom visited and called and it was a comfort to him. Steve and his wife Lynn live in New Jersey. Sunday afternoon and Monday night football found Steve and Big D. coaching and cheering even via telephone.  Their children Stephen and Julia were a treasure beyond words. Dallas loved being their Papa. Yes Stephen, Jesus is bigger than PaPa.
Although we will miss our beloved “Big D;” our friend, Papa, father, and husband we know we will soon be together again. We look forward with confidence to our heavenly bodies in our eternal home with Jesus. II Corinthians 5:5-6
